With the current pandemic not showing signs of slowing down anytime soon, Association SRT41 has decided to withdraw their entry from the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans which was scheduled to take place in September.
The French racing outfit was to run a Garage 56 (Invitational) entry this year in a specially adapted ORECA 07 which will be piloted by three physically impaired drivers. ACO gave the green light for Takuma Aoki, Nigel Bailly, and Snoussi Ben Moussa to run in the iconic endurance race this year, but with no adequate guaranteed opportunity for testing or race practice before Le Mans.
This unique team effort was due to pick up from the success of Frederic Sausset, a quadruple-amputee, who ran the 2016 edition of the race with two able-bodied drivers, and making it to the finishing line in an adapted Morgan LMP2. Sausset has established an academy for physically impaired drivers was to coach the trio for this race effort.
“After having carefully weighed all of our options, taken into account the human and financial costs of this terrible crisis, and considered the values that I have strived to uphold since the beginning of the SRT41 adventure, I have come to the conclusion that withdrawing from this year’s race is the sensible thing to do”, said Sausset.
