With the revised 2020 MotoGP calendar now announced, Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quartararo are already looking forward to resuming their track duties as the riders of the Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team.
Although the lower categories of Moto2 and Moto3 had already seen action in Qatar, the MotoGP class have yet to go racing this year. However, the Yamaha YZR-M1 had already gone through successful pre-season testing sessions at Sepang International Circuit and Losail International Circuit, Qatar.
As for the time being, the calendar had only confirmed dates for venues in Europe, but has yet to set any dates for places like Argentina, Thailand, and Malaysia. But Team Principal Razlan Razali is excited to get back racing again and is not discounting the possibility of MotoGP to reach Malaysia.
“There is still the possibility that we will make visits to America, Argentina, Thailand and/or Malaysia. Given how much progress has been made in the past seven weeks, there’s a lot of potential for many positive things to happen in the next seven weeks before the deadline,” he said.
Despite the tight calendar which crams 13 races in 18 weeks, both Morbidelli and Quartararo are excited to get back to racing as soon as possible.
“It’s a really tight calendar with 13 races in 18 weeks, so no mistakes can be made and it will be really tough with almost no rest. It will also be interesting to see how everyone faces this challenge,” said Morbidelli.
The team have been implementing additional health and safety measures in order to maintain safe working conditions for all team members, and Quartararo also hopes everyone will do the same to get things back to normal as soon as possible.
“Now the most important thing is to step-by-step, stay healthy and later we will have time to enjoy the entire MotoGP experience again. If we can conclude the year at the home GP of the team in Malaysia it would be an extra bonus for a really difficult start of the year,” said the young French rider.
