Earlier this morning, photos of brand new fleet vehicles bearing Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PDRM) livery circulated around the internet. Though there has not been any official statement by PDRM regarding the acquisition, the models in the fleet will raise a lot of eyebrows especially during a pandemic that we are currently in. The models in question are the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace R-Line, BMW X3 and most notably a BMW M3 Competition (G80).

According to the photos, these new cars are destined for PDRM’s High Performance fleet potentially joining the Evo X as well as the Civic Type R (FK8). However, there are rumors in the air claiming these cars are actually props for an upcoming movie but there are also some claiming that these are actually PDRM’s fleet for His Majesty The Yang Di-Pertuan Agong.

That being said, nobody has addressed the actual use for these vehicles for now. So, let’s delve deep into each vehicle just for the sake of it. We’ll begin with the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace R-Line. The on-the-road (with roadtax and insurance) price is RM210,000, the Tiguan is powered by the 2.0-litre TSI 4Motion mated to a 7-speed DSG that produces 220hp and 350Nm.

Then there is a pair of BMW X3s. The ones seen in the photos are the X3 xDrive30i Luxury. The on-the-road (without roadtax and insurance) price for one of these is RM304,235. The X3 xDrive30i Luxury is powered by a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo mated to an 8-speed Steptronic Sport Transmission that produces 252hp and 350Nm of torque that sends the power to all four wheels.

Now we get to the pièce de résistance of the whole fleet, the BMW M3 Competition G80. The on-the-road (without roadtax and insurance) price for one is RM639,336. The M3 is powered by the S58 3.0-litre TwinPower turbocharged straight-six, producing 510hp and 650Nm of torque. Mated to an 8-speed ZF gearbox, the power is sent to the rear wheels.

The price for all of the cars combined nears RM1,500,000.00. Hopefully these cars are really for a movie instead. If it really was for the use of the police force, the backlash would be quite severe.
