Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is currently conducting a worldwide recall of potentially affected Takata airbag modules from specific models made between 2004 until 2016. While there are no cases of faulty equipment, Mercedes is proceeding with the recall to ensure customers' safety, free of charge should their models be affected in this recall.
The worldwide recall started in mid-2019 for the affected models of Mercedes-Benz cars, vans and also trucks. Mercedes is closely working with authorities and Joyson Safety Systems (successor organization of Takata. However, Mercedes reassures that all present models and airbags are no longer equipped with Takata which uses ammonium nitrate as the primary propellant.
The affected cars locally are the passenger cars across a variety of model platforms. The list of models include:
- A-Class (W169)
- C-Class (W203 & W204)
- GLK-Class (X204)
- E Coupe and Convertible (W207)
- E-Class (W212)
- ML-Class and GL-Class (W164)
- R-Class (W251)
- SLK (W171)
- SLS AMG (W197)
