Just a week after the recent launch of the new City Hatchback, Honda Malaysia has announced the arrival of the upcoming 11th generation Civic. As the successor to the current outgoing model, the FC, the new Civic (FE) intends to raise the bar for the C-segment with new features such as Honda Sensing as well as introducing a new variant with the RS trim, a first for the Civic line-up since the model’s introduction back in 2001.
The 11th generation Civic takes a completely different styling cue as compared to its predecessor as the crab claw-like tail lamps for a more conventional rear end that looks closer it’s more mature sibling, the Accord. According to Honda, the new Civic styling elements are reminiscent of the 3rd generation Civic back from 1983. Which is a nice touch by Honda for staying true to its roots.
“The 11th Generation Civic is a modern interpretation of the classic and timeless Honda values which is human-centred in approach. This model offers a piece of the future, raising the benchmark of a C-segment sedan in every way while maintaining the best of the Civic DNA which is loved by Malaysians. The All-New Civic is truly A Legacy, Reborn!.” said Ms. Madoka Chujo, Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
She added “The Civic has a strong identity and is one of the favourite Honda models for Malaysians who love a car with exceptional styling and powerful performance. Since its introduction to the Malaysian market in 2001, we have sold close to 148,000 units of Civic and this legendary model continues to expand its fan base in the country. The iconic 10th Generation Civic which was launched in 2016, has contributed more than 66,600 units to the total Civic sales and continues to lead in the C-segment with 71% market share as of October 2021.”
The All-New Civic’s signature sporty and bold looks are accentuated by the RS exterior with Black Painted Side Mirrors, Shark Fin Antenna, Outer Door Handles, New Trunk Spoiler and 18” Black Matte Alloy Wheels.
For now, bookings can already be placed at your local Honda dealer, however, the price for the upcoming Civic is still not revealed but it is fair to say that it should be priced similar or not far off from the current generation. However, stay tuned for the launch of the all-new 11th generation Honda Civic and we're crossing fingers that Honda will be giving us a glimpse of the upcoming Type R as well. Maybe it'll change our previous thoughts on the prototype.
Under The Skin
The new Civic retains the same 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder similarly found in the outgoing model as well as the SUV sibling, the CR-V. That being said, the power unit has been further enhanced for better performance. The new Civic now makes 182hp and 240Nm of torque, which are figures that are similarly found on a naturally-aspirated 2.4-litre engine. However, the engine is mated to a remapped CVT gearbox. The All-New Civic now offered with a new drive mode option; ECON, Normal and Sport Mode which can be switched easily with Drive Mode Switch. The Sport Mode provides powerful torque sensation and high acceleration responsiveness for those who seek a more punchy drive. It is said that Malaysia’s spec is also the most powerful variant as compared to the ones in Indonesia as well as Thailand. So far, nothing is mentioned about the specs of the cars apart from the addition of the RS model. There is also no word regarding the naturally-aspirated 1.8-litre engine like the one in the outgoing generation.Interior On The Hush-Hush
In terms of interior, Honda has not released any information yet as they will most likely announce it closer to the launch date which is expected to be in Q1 2022. But Honda has announced the included features of the Honda Sensing tech which seems to be offered only on the RS. The enhanced Honda SENSING also now comes with a new feature - Lead Car Departure Notification System. This system notifies the driver of the start of the preceding car. During idle times such as the waiting at a traffic light, the system will alert the driver about the departure of the preceding car. Which is nice if you’re distracted by things like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The full suite of enhanced Honda SENSING safety features in All-New Civic RS are as below:- Lead Car Departure Notification System (NEW)
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Low-Speed Follow (LSF)
- Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
- Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS)
- Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
- Auto High Beam (AHB)
