The Jeep brand has always been synonymous with off-roading and rugged looks. Having a brand with deep roots that leads back to the war era, Jeep has always been a symbol of America. Though, much like other American cars, we don't see them a lot in Malaysia. However, Jeep is finally back in Malaysia with the Compass after a long hiatus and now under the new management of GVE Asia.
With their new showroom located in Glenmarie, Jeep is kicking off their commercial launch of the brand with the new Jeep Compass. The Compass is offered in two variants with the front-wheel drive Longitude and the all-wheel drive Limited. Both variants offer similar engine specs with the 1.4-litre Multiair Turbocharged engine which produces 162bhp at 5,500rpm and 250Nm of torque at 2,500rpm with 'Sport' mode available.
Compass Longitude (FWD) - RM248,000
Visually, the Longitude and the Limited looks identical. However, underneath the skin lies the differences between the two variants. The Longitude is only offered with a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). The Compass also receives a lot of standard assists from factory. Two unique Mopar features are the Rain Brake Support (RBS) and Electric Roll Mitigation (ERM) that are also standard. In terms of the interior, the Longitude receives Jeep's UConnect with a 7" touchscreen display with integrated Bluetooth voice command feature. Child Seat Anchoring points are available in the Compass as well as automatic headlights with cornering and fog functions. Also, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), keyless entry and power boot release are standard on both variants.
Compass Limited (AWD) - RM258,000
For starters, the Limited receives a completely different gearbox. Now, a 9-speed Automatic transmission which is mated to Jeep's Select Terrain 4x4 System. The equipment on the Longitude are all equipped here with added features such as the Parallel & Perpendicular Parking Assist, Park Sense Front and Rear System as well as Blindspot Monitoring & Cross Path Detection.
