Aston Martin is Ending Factory GTE Program After 9 Years

Aston Martin has been one of the common names in the endurance racing scene, and the marquee had created a number of sweet memories along the way as well. Unfortunately, Aston Martin is ending their successful factory GTE program after 9 years in operation, in which they will be shifting their focus to customer racing instead.

After their recent double world championship triumph in the 8 Hours of Bahrain last month, Aston Martin has achieved every target they had set for the V8 Vantage GTE. With a vast amount of experience gained throughout the years, they will apply their expertise to drive more success across the international GT racing landscape. “Vantage proved it has world champion pedigree in 2020, and in its GTE variant is a 24-hour race winner. Now with the Vantage GT3 we wish to give our partners and customers the best opportunity possible to fight for victory against our closest rivals in the toughest endurance challenges GT racing has to offer,” said the Chief Executive Officer of Aston Martin Lagonda, Tobias Moers.

A Long List of Achievements

Aston Martin was one of the big names who had supported the FIA World Endurance Championship since its inception. Throughout the years, they had collected 47 class wins, 103 podiums, 9 class championships, with the most memorable over being the 4 24 Hours of Le Mans class victories. Outside the WEC, the Vantage GT customer race car had also made a mark in the GT racing platform. From the 323 starts in more than 20 series, teams have recorded 62 victories and 157 podiums. Although the brand is now poised to return in F1, we hope that Aston Martin will still continue to make an appearance and perform in series like the Intercontinental GT Challenge, GT World Challenge, IMSA, and also Super GT. The shift in strategy for Aston Martin’s endurance program comes as a new and revised agreement with Prodrive has been concluded for the Banbury-based organization to continue exclusively manufacturing and distributing the current generation of front-engine GT race cars in a multi-year deal for Aston Martin Racing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=My5gBlLM0LE&feature=emb_logo&ab_channel=AstonMartin
