The highly anticipated German performance sedan/coupe is back in Malaysia! BMW Malaysia has officially launched the BMW M3 Competition and M4 Competition for the Malaysian market. Surprisingly, it seems that BMW Malaysia will only be bringing in the Competition variants and not the regular M3 and M4.

That being said, the new BMW has sparked controversy since it’s launch. Though it’s quite apparent by now, let’s address the elephant in the room for those who are unaware, shall we? The grille is not something I’d go crazy for but hey, different strokes for different folks.

The M3 Competition (G80) and the M4 Competition (G82) are both powered by the S58 3.0-litre TwinPower turbocharged straight-six, producing 510hp and 650Nm of torque. Mated to an 8-speed ZF gearbox, the power is sent to the rear wheels. However, BMW Malaysia will also be offering the optional ‘M xDrive’ which is an all-wheel drive setup. Though, with the ‘M xDrive’, you can also disable the all-wheel drive mode and just send all the power to the rear wheels. Both cars will do 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds.

The 8-speed ZF gearbox is also adjustable according to the driver’s needs. Some may argue that the previous generation M3/M4 may be superior due to it’s DCT gearbox, the ZF gearbox has modes such as Dynamic, Comfort or Smooth. BMW’s Drivelogic makes it even easier with having the custom presets on the steering wheel itself. The gears too can be shifted via the gear lever or the steering mounted paddle shifters.

Malaysian units will be offered with the 400mm carbon ceramic brakes as well as the M Sport exhaust system as standard. Owners can opt for the M Performance parts such as the carbon splitter, 20”/21” M Performance forged wheels, titanium exhaust with silencers, a rear carbon wing, carbon side skirts and carbon diffusers. However, for the buyers of the M3, you can tailor your car with BMW’s Individual line with more optional extras such as paint, seats and even down to the type of leather.

Both M-cars are given the M specific instrument cluster which displays focused and precise driving data in Sport and Track modes through BMW’s M Setup. This also allows the fine tuning of your braking dynamics. The M Drive Professional is also included which has a built-in laptimer and drift analyser. The cars can also be unlocked via your phone through BMW’s digital key as well as over-the-air updates for the car. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will now come as standard without additional subscriptions. The M3 Competition is currently priced at RM639,336.00 with the SST exemption without insurance (RM664,800 without the exemption) while the M4 Competition is currently priced at RM659,354.00 with the SST exemption without insurance (RM684,800 without the exemption) in Peninsular Malaysia.
